The Complianz Privacy Suite: Best Practices

Get compliant today in the European Union, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil & South Africa with the only Privacy Suite for WordPress that offers a fully-featured plugin for Worldwide Compliance.

How to begin

You have downloaded the Free Plugin: Complianz GDPR Cookie Consent, or you have the premium Complianz Privacy Suite installed. These are some quick tips to get the best out of our plugin:

1. When to use the wizard?

We recommend using the wizard if your website is either ready for deployment or after significant changes are made. Our plugin detects changes in Cookies and Plugins/Scripts, meaning every significant change might trigger a notification to change your policies and follow the steps in the wizard to finish the tasks in your Dashboard.

Our advice is to activate the plugin and configure our Privacy Plugin when all other plugins are installed and running. Not a new website, or no significant changes, besides our plugin? Use the wizard immediately, make sure previous or other similar plugins are deactivated, and cache emptied to get the best results.

2. The Cookie Banner

Please use the full possibilities of our Custom CSS and Templates to make the Cookie consent banner as user-friendly as possible. Test the banner on your website to see if it doesn’t block any vital content when activated. Are you interested in the most opt-ins? Use our A/B testing tool in the premium plugin to see which banner works best for you.

3. The Cookie Scan

For the best results, we suggest using your browser’s incognito or privacy window, with AdBlocker disabled. This way, the Cookie scan will find cookies that generally will be blocked by an AdBlocker and will not add cookies placed by browser extensions or cache.

Did you find any unknown cookies, please use the “Report Unknown Cookies” so we can add these to our Cookiedatabase.  Read more here about Unknown Cookies.

4. Adding elements to the Privacy Policy (Premium)

The Privacy Policy is updated and translated through a shortcode, meaning editing the legal texts is impossible. We are looking at placeholders for text in the future, but you can use the space before and after the shortcode on the page itself or use the text editor in the wizard where the plugin statements are collected.

5. Processing Agreements (Premium)

If needed, you will be notified by the wizard to add a link to the processing agreement with a service implemented on your website. It might be a little extra effort, but it’s necessary and valuable in the future. So please take a minute; we made it as easy as we could.

6. Multi-Language

Our Free plugin is based on the default language of your WordPress installation. You can either translate everything for yourself with another plugin or use our premium plugin, which comes standard with English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish & Italian. You can use Polylang, WPML and other tools to translate these to any other language or have the cookie banner and policies in all 12 languages instantly. If you’re unsure how to configure this for your website, please see number 7!

7. Support

Complianz is a comprehensive plugin, which we try to make more leisurely every day, while adding features at the same time. If there are any questions surrounding configuration and use, please feel free to ask for support.
