Quebec Bill 64 (also referred to as Law 25) is Canadian legislation that aims to modernize Quebec privacy legislation. The bill was introduced in 2020 and enforced in three steps, respectively, on September 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Before Quebec Bill 64 was enforced, privacy and cookie legislation leaned more towards US/Californian legislation, as opt-out was relevant for most WordPress websites. Quebec Bill 64 shows more similarities with the European GDPR, including the implementation of opt-in for cookies and rights for data subjects.
