Resolved: Soft Cookie Wall – Focus Trap Issue After Consent (v7.5.7)

Update – March 11, 2026, 8:30 AM: This issue has been resolved. A patched version is now available for both Complianz Premium and Complianz Premium Multisite – v7.5.7.1. We strongly recommend updating to the latest version as soon as possible.

We want to give you a quick heads-up about a bug we identified in the cookie banner’s soft cookie wall feature.

What happened?

After a visitor accepted or dismissed the cookie banner, the focus trap — used to keep keyboard navigation within the banner while it’s active — was incorrectly re-triggering during page navigation. This caused all links on the page to become unresponsive for keyboard and some pointer-based interactions after consent had already been given.

Who was affected?

This issue only affected sites that had the soft cookie wall option enabled. If you were not using the soft cookie wall, your site was not affected.

What was the fix?

The root cause has been identified and resolved. The fix is included in the latest release for both versions:

Fix: Cookie banner focus trap incorrectly re-activating after consent was given, blocking page links during navigation.

Please update your plugin to the latest version to apply the fix.

In the meantime

If you have not yet updated and the issue is still causing problems on your site, you can temporarily disable the soft cookie wall from the Complianz banner settings until the update has been applied.
