Complianz can email you when something needs your attention. For example, when an important feature is turned on and you should double-check it, when a data request comes in, or when an update needs action from you. This article explains how the emails work, how to set them up, and what to do when one doesn’t arrive or looks wrong.
How email notifications work
- Email notifications were added in Complianz 7.0. They are off by default.
- They go to the email address you set in Complianz. If you haven’t set one, they go to the site’s admin email address, found under Settings > General in WordPress.
- An email is sent whenever the event happens, whoever caused it. If another administrator turns a feature on or off, you still get the email.
- Some emails are sent without anyone changing a setting, for example about an update that needs your attention.
Turn email notifications on
We strongly recommend turning them on, so you know when to take action.
- Go to Complianz > Settings > General.
- Turn on Notifications by email.
- Optionally, enter the Email address the emails should go to. If you leave it empty, they go to the site’s admin email address.
- Save.
The email doesn’t arrive
Your own server sends these emails through the standard WordPress mail function, so Complianz doesn’t control whether they’re delivered. If an email doesn’t arrive:
- Check your spam folder.
- Check whether your site sends other emails, such as password resets. If it doesn’t, the problem is with your server’s mail setup, not Complianz.
- Use a plugin such as WP Mail SMTP to send your site’s email through a proper mail service.
The email content doesn’t look right
If an email mentions a feature you didn’t change, first check whether another administrator has access to that setting. They may have changed it.
If nobody else could have made the change, or the email looks broken or is missing information, please contact support and we’ll take a look.
Turn email notifications off
Turning off Notifications by email in Complianz > Settings > General stops all Complianz notification emails. That includes important updates about your compliance and the plugin, security updates among them.
