Error: The link you have followed has expired

When trying to upload the Complianz plugin, some users receive the error message: “The link you followed has expired.”. This is a well-known problem with WordPress and we know the solution to it.

The reason this message occurs is because of the upload max size settings in your WordPress installation. This value is typically set to 2MB, and the Complianz plugin (and many others) exceed that limit.

Solution 1:

You can adjust the configuration to allow for the plugin to be uploaded, by adjusting the following rules in your php.ini file.

upload_max_filesize = 64M
post_max_size = 64M
max_execution_time = 300

The php.ini file should be located in the root directory of your WordPress installation. You can manually create the file if it does not exist yet.

Solution 2:

This method works as well, as you bypass every single WordPress restriction.

“Unzip” the plugin .zip file on your own PC, and manually upload the plugin via FTP (so, you would upload the complianz-gdpr-premium folder, without the .zip).

Upload the plugin in the /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
